Boise State University offers merit-based tuition assistance programs for our incoming non-resident students. There is no separate application for these scholarship programs. For priority consideration, you must complete and submit all admission materials by February 15th for Fall entrance. Students admitted after February 15, or for Spring Semester admission, will be considered on a space-available basis.

Gem Scholarships
Description
Gem Scholarships waive the entire full time non-resident portion of tuition* for out-of-state students. There is no separate application process. For priority consideration, complete and submit all admission materials by February 15th for Fall entrance. Students admitted after February 15, or for Spring Semester admission, will be considered on a space-available basis.
To be considered for a Gem Scholarship you must:
- Have a permanent residence outside the State of Idaho
- Be accepted as a degree-seeking student with an eligible undergraduate program. Please note that the over enrolled programs are closed to Gem participants. Students who choose an over enrolled major on their application for Boise State admission or within their BroncoWeb student account will not be considered for the Gem. The closed majors include Nursing, Pre-Nursing, Radiology, and Pre-Radiology. Self-supported online programs are also closed to Gem participants. These programs are subject to change.
- New Entering Freshman must have at least a 3.60 cumulative unweighted high school GPA AND ACT composite 27 or SAT critical reading and math combined 1210 to receive the Gem. Additional students will be considered based on resource availability. High School students with college credits will be considered based on their high school GPA and test scores.
- New Transfer Students must have earned 26 or more semester credits from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with at least a 3.75 cumulative college GPA in order to be considered for this highly competitive award.
Renewal
Gem Scholarships are awarded for one year and may be renewed for three additional years if you complete at least 12 credits per semester you receive the award or 24 credits per academic year if you are a fall/spring Gem recipient (courses that are repeated within the same academic year do not count towards meeting the credit completion requirement), maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00, and remain in an eligible program.

Gem Grad Scholarship
Description
Gem Grad Scholarships waive the entire full time non-resident portion of tuition and fees* for out-of-state and international graduate students with a GPA of at least 3.00 who are accepted into an eligible graduate program. Qualified students who attended Boise State as an undergraduate are eligible for a graduate Gem Scholarship, even if they received Gem support as an undergraduate.
There is no separate application process. If you are accepted into an eligible graduate program, then Graduate Admission and Degree Services alerts the Financial Aid Office, which makes the offer to you.
To be considered for a Gem Grad Scholarship you must:
- Have a permanent residence outside the State of Idaho (both international students and US citizens are eligible)
- Have a cumulative GPA as an undergraduate of 3.00 or higher
- Be accepted into a graduate program. Please note that the online graduate programs in Educational Technology, Nursing, Instructional and Performance Technology, and the Masters in Social Work off campus programs are ineligible for the Gem Grad Scholarship. These programs are subject to change. The MBA Career Start program has a limited number of Gem Grad awards they can offer. Please contact the MBA Career Start program for details.
Deadline: Gem Grad Scholarships are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. Therefore, the sooner you submit an application, the better your chances a scholarship will be offered.
Renewal
Gem Grad Scholarships are awarded for one year and may be renewed for one additional year if you complete at least 9 credits per semester you receive the award or 18 credits per academic year if you are a fall/spring Gem Grad recipient (courses that are repeated within the same academic year do not count towards meeting the credit completion requirement), maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00, and remain in an eligible program. Two years is the maximum award period.

Western Undergraduate Exchange - WUE
Description
WUE Scholarships waive a portion of the full time non-resident tuition* for out-of-state students. There is no separate application process. For priority consideration, complete and submit all admission materials by February 15th for Fall entrance. Students admitted after February 15, or for Spring Semester admission, will be considered on a space-available basis.
To be considered for a WUE Scholarship you must:
- Have a permanent residence within one of the following 14 participating states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, or Wyoming.
- Be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident
- Be accepted as a degree-seeking student with an eligible undergraduate program. Please note that the over enrolled programs are closed to WUE participants. Students who choose an over enrolled major on their application for Boise State admission or within their BroncoWeb student account will not be considered for the WUE. The closed majors include Nursing, Pre-Nursing, Radiology, and Pre-Radiology. Self-supported online programs are also closed to WUE participants. These programs are subject to change.
- New Entering Freshman must have at least a 3.20 cumulative unweighted high school GPA AND ACT composite 22 or SAT critical reading and math combined 1020 to receive the WUE. Additional students will be considered based on resource availability. High School students with college credits will be considered based on their high school GPA and test scores.
- New Transfer Students must have earned 26 or more semester credits from a regionally accredited institution of higher education with at least a 3.50 cumulative college GPA in order to be considered for this highly competitive award.
Renewal
WUE Scholarships are awarded for up to four years provided you meet the renewal criteria. You must complete a minimum of 12 credits per semester or 24 credits per academic year. Courses repeated within the same academic year do not count toward meeting the credit completion requirement. In addition you need to maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.5**, remain in an eligible major, and remain a resident of one of the WUE participating states.
(** A 2.00 is the minimum GPA required for renewal for WUE recipients enrolling spring 2011 and earlier.)

The scholarship waives the non-resident portion of Boise State University tuition. You are still responsible for in-state fees (currently $2,783 for the 2012 Spring semester). The International Student Program Waiver is a tuition assistance program for outstanding international students who demonstrate academic achievement and a commitment to being a successful international student at Boise State University. The scholarship waives the non-resident portion of Boise State University tuition. You are still responsible for in-state fees (currently $2,783 for the 2012 Spring semester). You may qualify to have your Waiver renewed for up to 4 years, so long as you continue to make reasonable progress towards a degree and you meet the criteria for renewal.
