A grant is money awarded to you for the purpose
of paying for college. The money does not have to be paid back. Grants can

A loan is money you borrow for the purpose of paying for college. Loans have to be paid
back. There are variety of federal and state loans available to Boise State students.
The
Parent PLUS loan is
an excellent option for reducing the gap between the cost of attendance
and the aid offered to a student. The PLUS loan is also a low interest
federal loan. |

Loans - Alternative
|
|
These may be
another financing option available through a private lender of your
choice. These loans will require eligibility based on the credit of the
student borrower and/or a co-signer. Your eligibility is usually limited
to your Boise State Cost of Attendance minus other aid. Use these private
alternative loans only if you need more loan assistance than is provided
through the government loan options above.
After researching your loan options, if you
have further questions about the private lenders, please make an
appointment to visit with a financial aid counselor. Appointments are
available in person or by phone.

Work-Study

information in Aid Handbook |
|
Work-study is a
financial aid award that provides the opportunity to work and earn a
portion of the funds needed to cover your educational or living
expenses. You may apply for a special class of jobs open only to those
with a work-study award. However, it is your responsibility to match
your work-study award with a department who has funding available to
hire you. Employment is not guaranteed. Also, it is important to note, your award amount is not a
guaranteed earnings award – it is dependent on you working.
Work-study jobs are usually located on campus.
