Pell Grant recipients may need to repay money, and ACG/SMART Grants may be reduced, if not attentive to the policies described below!
The amount of your Pell Grant, ACG and SMART will vary according to the number of credits in which you enroll. Adjustments you make to your schedule may impact the amount of your grants.
This means that the amount of your Pell Grant, ACG & SMART Grant could be decreased if you drop courses. You will be responsible for repayments resulting from any decrease to your previously disbursed Pell Grant, ACG or SMART grant award. In order to avoid an unexpected balances on your account, please be aware of the following policies:
Your Pell Grant, and ACG/SMART Grant enrollment is frozen on September 4th at 11:59 p.m.
Any classes added after September 4th will not count towards determining your Pell, ACG or SMART Grant eligibility.
This applies to internships, workshops, and other classes, even if the University allows you to add these credits after September 4th.
Attendance in all classes.
Your Pell Grant, ACG, and SMART Grant awards are based on the assumption that you attend all of your enrolled classes.
If you do not attend a class, or you drop a class before it starts, your Pell Grant award will be recalculated and ACG/SMART awards will be reduced if you drop below 12 credits.
Your student account on BroncoWeb will reflect any grant reduction that occurs for these reasons. (Please allow up to three days for enrollment changes to be reflected on your student account.)
Enrollment Adjustments between now and September 4th.
If you add or drop class after your Pell Grant has disbursed, your student account will reflect any resulting changes to your Pell Grant award within three business days.
Try to add and drop classes during the same session on BroncoWeb, if possible.
Whenever possible, ADD a class before you drop another class. (Dropping a class may cause your Pell Grant award to decrease.)
It is possible to receive a refund for your student fees before your Pell Grant has been recalculated. Before you spend the refund, watch BroncoWeb for three business days to see if you need to repay some Pell Grant funds.
Following these steps will help you avoid receiving a late fee penalty on temporary unpaid balances created by a Pell Grant decrease.
