You Need to Get a Hardcopy of Your 2007 Taxes!

No matter how you complete your taxes -- electronically, paper, or through a tax preparer-- you need to get and keep a copy of your 2007 tax forms!

Every year, hundreds of financial aid recipients are selected for "verification" and are required to submit federal tax returns and W2s to financial aid offices.

What We See Far Too Often
bullet Individuals used a tax preparer who only provided a summary of the tax forms.
bullet Electronic tax filers choose not to print out a hard copy of taxes return
bullet Individuals who had copies of taxes can no longer find them when needed
bullet Spouses divorce and only one spouse has the copy of the taxes.
bullet Individuals had more than one employer during the year, but they can't find all of the W2s

No Tax Forms Can Cause Financial Aid Processing to be Delayed by Weeks

bullet If a financial aid recipient is selected for verification, processing their application stops until all federal tax returns, schedules and W2s for the past tax year are submitted.
bullet Individuals frequently need to submit a written form to the IRS requesting a copy of their tax transcript and W2s. It can take 6-10 weeks for the transcript to be sent to Boise State.
bullet Families need to return to the tax preparer to request a hard copy of the actual tax returns. Often the tax preparer closes their office after the tax season is over.

You will thank us later if you heed our advice now!

Submit tax documents only when you are requested to do so by Financial Aid To Do items or instructions on a form requires taxes be attached.
