Satisfactory Academic Progress Policy has been completely revised
Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) Policy has undergone major revisions due to federal financial aid regulation changes. As federal resources become tighter, the federal financial aid requirements are becoming stricter. Below are VERY brief highlights of the changes to the policy. The wise student will review the entire policy because this summary is a poor substitute for the actual policy.
A Comprehensive Minimum GPA standard that includes all grades for Boise State and transfer credits. Every grade you receive will be calculated into the comprehensive GPA, even those that have been excluded or replaced based on university academic policies! Besides that, the minimum GPA requirements are higher than those listed in the university catalog for academic requirements.
The Pace Standard replaces the Credit Completion Standard, however, the purpose is the same... to keep students on pace to complete their degree prior to facing a Maximum Credit Standard. The difference with the Pace Standard is that transfer credits will now be included into calculations.
The Maximum Credit Standard is significantly different from the past policies due to the federal regulations as well as Boise State transitioning to a minimum 120 credits to earn a bachelor's degree. One of the biggest changes is that a student will become ineligible for federal financial aid at the point it is mathematically impossible to complete a degree by the time they reach the 150% attempted credit mark.
Students attempting to complete double and triple majors at the same time they are enrolled in their first major will be especially impacted by this standard. Students are expected to complete a degree before attempting 150% of the credits required for that type of degree.
Historically, the minimum credit requirement for a bachelor's degree was 128 completed credits, and 150% of that amount was 192 credits. Boise State is changing the minimum credit requirement to 120 completed credits, and 150% of that amount will be 180.
