Verification Changes | Tax Return Transcripts, Non-Filing Letters

Good news for students and families!
As of 4/24/17, the U.S. Department of Education has relaxed requirements for certain verification items:

  • Students and parents may now submit 2015 signed federal Tax Returns rather than waiting to receive their Tax Return Transcript.
  • The IRS Letter of Non-Filing is no longer required as part of the verification process.

The chart below summarized the new changes:

Original verification request: To fulfill verification requirements, you may now submit:
2015 Tax Return Transcript
IRS Letter of Non-Filing
AND
Boise State Non-Filing Student or Parent form
ONLY Boise State Non-Filing Student or Parent form
*IRS Letter of Non-Filing no longer required.

These changes have been made as a result of the Data Retrieval Tool outage, which previously allowed students and families to directly transfer IRS data to the FAFSA and fulfill verification requirements. The DRT is expected to be unavailable until Fall 2017.

The Financial Aid and Scholarships Office is actively working to update the requirements on Student To Do Lists and to notify students of the requirement changes. Please contact our office if you have questions.

We encourage you to submit requested documents via email, fax, or in-person.
