Idaho Resident Scholarships

Boise State University offers merit-based and need-based scholarships for our new incoming and transfer Idaho resident students. The Presidential, Dean’s, and True Blue Promise scholarships are automatically awarded to Idaho students accepted as a degree-seeking student. To meet the priority date for resident scholarships for fall 2017, all admission materials for new and transfer students must be received in the Admissions Office by February 15, 2017.

The criteria listed is for fall 2017 and spring 2018. Qualified students will receive one of the following scholarships. For fall 2017, award notifications will be finalized by the end of March 2018. For spring 2018 semester, notifications will be finalized by the end of November 2018. Award notifications will be sent to your u.boisestate email address.

  • The minimum SAT scores (critical reading and math combined) listed refers to test taken March 1, 2016 and later. Convert your scores at admissions.boisestate.edu/sat.
  • *Must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by February 15th.
  • Home School students and students that completed their GED will be considered based on ACT and SAT scores.
  • High School students with college credits will be considered based on their high school GPA and test scores.
  • Additional students will be considered based on resource availability

Students ineligible for automatic awards may be considered for Departmental and General Scholarships. These scholarships are competitive and based on a holistic review of academic records and scholarship questions included in the Boise State Scholarship Application. Award amounts vary.

All scholarships are based on available funding for the Fall 2017 entering term.

New Students Renewal Information
  • Recipients must maintain enrollment in at least 12 credits each semester to receive this award.
  • The Presidential and Dean’s Scholarships are awarded for one year and may be renewed for a second year if you complete at least 12 credits each semester you receive the award, or 24 credits per academic year if you are a fall/spring), and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00.
  • The True Blue Promise is awarded for one year and may be renewed each year (up to 8 semesters) if you complete at least 12 credits each semester you receive the award, or 24 credits per academic year if you are a fall/spring), you must maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00 and have financial need.

Courses that are repeated within the same academic year do not count towards meeting the credit completion requirement

  • Students with less than 26 transfer credits are encouraged to submit a high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores to the Admission’s Office to be evaluated for scholarship consideration.

The Presidential Transfer Scholarship and Dean’s Transfer Scholarship are not renewable.

Idaho Opportunity

Idaho Opportunity Scholarship

The Idaho Opportunity Scholarship is funded through the Idaho State Board of Education. The award can be up to $3,000 per year.

To be considered for the Idaho Opportunity Scholarship you must meet all of the following criteria:

  • Be an Idaho resident.
  • Be pursuing your first undergraduate degree.
  • New Entering Freshman must have a minimum 3.0 unweighted, cumulative high school GPA.
  • Continuing students must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative college GPA.
  • Be a graduate from an Idaho high school or its equivalent (GED from Idaho).
  • Complete the State Board of Education scholarship application by March 1.
  • Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by March 1.
  • Plan to enroll as a full-time undergraduate student.
  • Maintain satisfactory academic progress for financial aid purposes.

Idaho Opportunity Renewal Information

Idaho Opportunity Renewal Information

Idaho Opportunity Scholarships are awarded for one year and may be renewed for three additional years if you complete at least 24 credits per academic year (courses that are repeated within the same academic year do not count towards meeting the credit completion requirement) and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.00. Students must also submit a renewal scholarship application and a renewal FAFSA by March 1.
